E-scooters might look like a fun and eco-friendly gift, but here’s what you need to know before you buy:

✅ Privately owned e-scooters are illegal to use on UK public roads, pavements, and cycle lanes.
They are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act, which means they would need insurance, tax, and registration to be road legal – and currently, that’s not possible.

✅ Where can you ride them legally?
Only on private land with the landowner’s permission. Using them in public spaces can lead to:
